Your “Gift of Empowerment”

will help the children we counsel in our Sexual Assault Center

Each of the women and children we help empower at YWCA Lancaster has a story to tell that confirms the need for our services. Sometimes the story of what they’ve gone through is so compelling that it tugs at one’s heartstrings.

This is especially true with the girls and boys who come to us for help in regaining control of their lives at our Sexual Assault Prevention and Counseling Center (SAPCC).

They are thankful, just like their parents, that the YWCA is here to help them through what can be an overwhelmingly difficult time.

Here is what a 7-year-old survivor of sexual abuse told us:

“My counselor made me see that I wasn’t stupid. I’m a kid and didn’t know what to do. What happened was his fault, not mine. I like coming to see her because she helps me not to be mad all the time. I’m getting better with that and everyone has noticed.”

Can you imagine if this were a child in your family? How would you feel?

Here’s what parents have told us:

“Your counselor was able to help my son open up about his feelings.”

“I don’t know where my family would be if we had not received your services.”

This little boy’s story is not unique. Last year we helped 713 survivors of sexual assault and abuse, and their loved ones, with free professional counseling and support. More than half our clients are children, some as young as 4.

And sadly there has been a marked increase in requests for counseling and preventive education following the seemingly never-ending press reports of child sexual abuse in recent months.

True to our Mission, YWCA Lancaster  helped empower this child to get his life back together. He is just one of thousands of women and children in need who have been empowered by our services.
