Your “Gift of Empowerment”
You can help women and children in distress take control of their lives with a “Gift of Empowerment” to our Annual Campaign
YWCA Lancaster strives to empower women and children in our community. Whether it’s free professional counseling for a victim of sexual assault, quality affordable childcare for a working mother, or a safe place to call home, the YWCA is here for those in need.
We’d like to share the story of Kerry Odgers, a 26-year-old recovering heroin addict, who came to live at the YW Residence while completing a court ordered rehabilitative program after a retail theft. Kerry says the stability and support she received from the staff and other residents helped her take charge of her life, turn it around, stay with the program and keep away from drugs.
“The YWCA has given me the opportunity to get my life together. I’m growing, I embrace it, I love myself. I would not change that for the world, and I’m grateful I’ve had the chance to do it here.”
During her time with us, Kerry’s had regular employment, fulfilled her community service obligations, paid off her fines and put money aside for independent living. She’s all set to start her life over as a new woman. Kerry is just one of thousands of women and children in need who have been empowered by our services.
